The free theme Anne H. had installed herself on A Vegan Adventure wasn’t doing justice to her beautiful photos and friendly prose. It also wasn’t getting her the search engine placements she wanted.
My initial discovery process revealed the client’s preferences for a specific workflow within WordPress, certain social media sharing options and tools, an existing email subscriber list, and a significant catalog of content.
Based on her goals for the site of showcasing her photos and maximizing SEO, I recommended the Foodie Theme based on the Genesis framework.
The client agreed requesting a site configuration matching the theme’s demo site the demo site with certain modifications to better feature photographs of the dishes and recipes, and making signing up for the email list easier and a more prominent ask.
Tasks & Deliverables
I set up a beta site importing the client’s plugins and content allowing Anne H. to approve and request changes, experiment with photo composition in context, and learn the specifics of managing a site using this theme with zero disruption to her existing site.
Using custom featured image sizes, the middle and lower portions of the homepage facilitated a tiered approach to presenting posts.
Colors used for the buttons keyed off the playful, visual logo created to spec for this theme by an outside designer.
As completed, this site provided a showcase for the recipes and allowed the client to expand and control what content was featured on the homepage.
After assessing her audience and the site’s reach, the client asked me to help transition her brand to a more inclusive title and URL. The result: My Vibrant Plate.
